MAGNETICS 2020 will feature two pre-conference workshops that will be held on February 10th to provide attendees with a deep-dive learning experience. Seating for workshops is limited and typically sells out – register soon!
The Magnetics Bootcamp, presented by Dr. Stan Trout withSpontaneous Materials, focuses on teaching you the basics of magnetics with an emphasis on permanent magnets. If you need to understand magnets better for your job, want to understand the conference presentations, or are new to the field, the Magnetics Bootcamp is the perfect place to start. It assumes that one has little or no background in magnetics. The Bootcamp will cover all the essential fundamental magnetic concepts such as hysteresis, the nature of magnetism, units, magnet processing, thermal effects, magnetizing, self-demagnetization, measurements and case studies. The Advanced Control Technologies for AC/DC Machines & Motion Control workshop, presented by Dal Ohm with Drivetech, Inc., will provide fundamental concepts of electric motors and motor control techniques as well as introducing advanced technologies practically in use. This course also discusses control electronics hardware and AC/DC motor control algorithms, servo system feedback control, PID regulators and their tuning procedure. From Dal’s long experience in research and development of many different types of drives, practical and useful procedures in selecting control method, rule-of-thumb design rules, control system structure and tuning, performance vs. cost tradeoff, etc. will be discussed.
