Shannon Given, MAGNETICS 2018 Program Manager
It isn’t too early to start making plans for MAGNETICS 2018, February 8-9 in Orlando. Building on the success of the 2017 event, there are new additions and features for attendees to make the most out of the conference, including the Buyers Forum and one-on-one meetings. Here are some of the items you can look forward to the 2018 event.
New Website and URL
A new website and URL was launched in September 2017 and outlines the conference, from the pre-conference workshops and presentation schedule to current exhibitors and Blogs. The blogs will not only include information about the conference, but market trends from analysts, industry insights from tech leaders and the latest trends impacting the magnetics industry. Bookmark the conference URL for the latest news and updates.
MAGNETICS 2018 will feature more than 20 technical presentations. With two tracks running concurrently, attendees can customize the sessions they attend to fit their interests. From the Rare Earth market to manufacturing techniques, the presentations will provide attendees with useful information. Sessions to note:
- The Future of the Magnetics Industry – Pricing, Trends, Technology with panelists from Quadrant Magnetics, MagnetoDynamics, Spontaneous Materials, Walter T. Benecki LLC and Hitachi Metals America, Ltd.
- International Rare Earth Standards will be presented by CSA Group.
- Permanent Magnets Material Options: Why $/kg and (BH)max are Misleading Metrics will be presented by Magnet Applications, Inc.
- Evaluating Magnetic Materials on Brushless PM Motor Performance will be presented by Incremotion Associates

The pre-conference workshops taking place on February 7th are designed to provide tangible information for both the new and seasoned engineer. Stan Trout with Spontaneous Materials will again host the popular Basic and Advanced Magnetic Bootcamps, which focus on teaching the basics of magnetics with an emphasis on permanent magnets. Steve Constantinides with Magnetics & Materials LLC Identifying Opportunities for Magnets and Motors, will provide an understanding of the markets for magnetic materials and for motors and actuators; changes in the markets that are creating new or greatly expanded opportunities; where these opportunities are likely to be found geographically; options for dealing with competition.
New to the 2018 event, the Buyer’s Forum will give Magnetic System buyers, integrators, end-users a unique platform to present their experiences, case studies, complications and lessons learned. This is an opportunity to discuss with colleagues, OEMs and suppliers their technology needs and expectations.
MAGNETICS 2018 offers attendees and exhibitors an unparalleled opportunity to network. We are making available our proprietary 1×1 Meeting platform, which is used in hundreds of events each year. This allows you to search by profile category, and find exactly the people or companies you want to meet, invite them to a meeting, and enjoy uninterrupted conversation at a specific time and location. You must be a registered attendee before you can use this feature.
The interactive exhibit hall will showcase and demonstrate products from leading vendors in testing and instrumentation, power electronics, magnetics assembly and materials.
Researchers will display the latest advancements and discoveries in the field. Posters will be on display in the exhibit hall with dedicated time to review the work and ask questions.
Motor & Drive Systems 2018
For the eight consecutive year, MAGNETICS 2018 will be co-located with Motor and Drive Systems 2018. A full conference pass grants access to both conferences, including the presentations, breaks and more.
Early registration price is $795; deadline is December 13th. Team discounts are available, which gives $200 off each additional team member.
