Developments in Samarium Iron Nitride: Paving the way for the next generation of magnets
Through optimizations in SmFeN particle synthesis and coating processes, Nichia has developed improved magnetic materials with the highest performance, heat resistance, and durability among rare-earth bonded magnets. An assortment of demanding applications, like automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics, require robust magnets with higher remanence and coercivity, along with superior reliability for long term usage.
Nichia’s improved SmFeN PA12 magnetic materials boast a Br of more than 0.85T and Hcj of 1800 kA/m, a 0.1T+ gain in flux and 50% bump in coercivity over the previous generation, respectively. These modifications have also yielded an irreversible flux loss of only 2% in air at 150°C after 1000 hours, leading to longer life in the field. Nichia will discuss how these process improvements have made it possible to achieve higher magnetic performance.
